CLEARFIELD: A Clearfield County woman is facing multiple felony charges after police allege she sold methamphetamine during a controlled drug transaction arranged with a confidential informant.
Melissa Sue Cartwright, 51, of Lawrence Township, was charged by Clearfield Regional Police in connection with an alleged drug sale that took place on Feb. 25 of last year. The charges include felony manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, felony criminal use of a communication facility, and misdemeanor counts of intentional possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators were alerted by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Drug Task Force after a confidential informant reported being able to purchase methamphetamine from Cartwright at her residence.
Police allege the informant arranged to buy an “eight ball,” commonly understood to be approximately 3.5 grams of methamphetamine, for $140. The controlled purchase was coordinated for a Lawrence Township residence shortly after 9:30 a.m.
Authorities say a task force vehicle was positioned nearby while the informant and an undercover agent arrived at the residence and parked in front. The informant then approached the home and made contact with a woman identified as Cartwright.
Investigators allege that after the informant handed Cartwright $140 in recorded funds, she provided a small pink, semi-transparent plastic bag containing a crystalline substance. During the interaction, police say the two discussed the possibility of future, larger purchases. Cartwright allegedly indicated that obtaining a greater quantity would be possible and stated she would reach out to other sources.
The substance was later tested and confirmed to be methamphetamine, weighing approximately 3.36 grams, according to court records.
During centralized court proceedings this week, Cartwright waived her right to a preliminary hearing, allowing the case to move forward to Clearfield County Court. She was released on $50,000 unsecured bail pending further court action.
