LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP: A proposed expansion of the Energy Building in Lawrence Township is moving forward after receiving a recommendation for approval from the township’s planning commission Tuesday evening.
Clearly Ahead Development — the operating name of the Clearfield County Economic Development Corporation — is seeking to construct a 3,000-square-foot addition onto the existing Energy Building at 509 Spruce Street. Township Code Enforcement Officer Agatha Lauder said the planned expansion would be built on the west side of the current structure.
The property sits within the township’s commercial zoning district. Lauder noted that any future occupants of the expanded space will be required to comply with all regulations governing commercial properties in the district.
Clearfield County Commissioner Tim Winters, who attended the meeting for unrelated business, confirmed that grant funding will be used to finance the construction project. Winters said the building currently houses Ryder along with several additional tenants.
At this time, no projected construction costs have been released. Clearly Ahead CEO Rob Swales could not be reached for comment.
The land development proposal now advances to the Lawrence Township Supervisors for final consideration.
Other Business Before The Commission
In additional action, the planning commission recommended approval of a conditional use application filed by Lorinda Sheaffer, owner of Tangled Salon. According to Lauder, Sheaffer plans to relocate her business to her residence at 792 Fire Tower Road.
A special meeting of the Lawrence Township Supervisors that had been scheduled to immediately follow the planning commission session was canceled. Township Manager Ashley Pritchard explained that two supervisors, Randy Powell and Jeremy Ruffner — both volunteer firefighters — were responding to an emergency call. Supervisor Scott Way was also unavailable.
Pritchard offered to document public comments from those present and relay them to the supervisors at a later time.
Winters said he had intended to thank township officials for addressing previous zoning concerns. Resident Steve Gillespie stated he plans to attend the supervisors’ next regular meeting to address them directly.
