RIDGWAY: The Ridgway YMCA Blue Tide swim team is celebrating an outstanding showing at the 2026 District IX Swimming & Diving Championships, where two of its standout athletes delivered dominant performances and punched tickets to the state stage.

Maddie Lanzel and Wynn Schreiber each climbed to the top of the podium, bringing home multiple medals and continuing the strong tradition of excellence for the Blue Tide program.

Lanzel Secures State Berth

Maddie Lanzel capped off her championship weekend with a gold medal in the 100 Breaststroke and a second-place finish in the 100 Butterfly. Her performance in the butterfly not only earned her silver but also secured a qualifying time for the upcoming PIAA State Championships.

Lanzel’s consistency and speed throughout the meet demonstrated both her technical precision and competitive drive, positioning her among the top swimmers in District IX this season.

Schreiber Sweeps Distance Freestyle

Wynn Schreiber delivered a dominant performance in the distance freestyle events, capturing two gold medals with victories in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. Her commanding swims in both races highlighted endurance, race strategy, and closing speed that set her apart from the field.

With back-to-back district titles in the freestyle events, Schreiber now carries strong momentum into the state competition.

Blue Tide Pride

The Ridgway YMCA Blue Tide page, dedicated to sharing updates and accomplishments of the swim team, has highlighted the athletes’ continued success and growth. The program, based at the Ridgway YMCA, continues to develop swimmers who compete at the highest levels of district and state competition.

Lanzel and Schreiber will next compete at the PIAA State Championships scheduled for March 11–14, where they will represent both their schools and the Ridgway YMCA Blue Tide program on the statewide stage.
