CLEARFIELD: A local 4-H member is stepping into a major leadership role at the state level.

Sophia Leiden has been named President of the 2026 Pennsylvania 4-H State Council, earning the honor during the PA 4-H State Leadership Conference, where she was formally sworn into the position. Leiden will serve alongside fellow State Council members from across the Commonwealth throughout the coming year.

The Pennsylvania 4-H State Council is made up of outstanding 4-H youth selected from across Pennsylvania to serve as the official youth spokespeople for the program. Council members represent Pennsylvania 4-H at events, conferences, and outreach efforts statewide, while helping shape the direction of youth leadership initiatives.

A Statewide Leadership Role

As president, Leiden will help lead the council’s work while representing Pennsylvania 4-H at the state level. The role includes public speaking, youth advocacy, collaboration with extension educators, and participation in events that highlight the impact of 4-H programs across urban, suburban, and rural communities.

State Council members are chosen through a competitive selection process that evaluates leadership experience, communication skills, service, and commitment to the core values of 4-H.

Representing 4-H Across The Commonwealth

Pennsylvania 4-H operates under Penn State Extension, offering hands-on learning opportunities in areas such as agriculture, STEM, leadership, and civic engagement. The State Council plays a visible role in promoting those programs and serving as a bridge between youth participants and adult leadership.

Throughout their term, council members attend statewide events, engage with younger 4-H members, and help tell the story of how 4-H prepares youth for leadership and service.

Local Pride

Leiden’s selection brings statewide recognition to the local 4-H community, highlighting the strength of youth leadership development programs in the region. Community members, educators, and fellow 4-H families are encouraged to congratulate Leiden and the full 2026 State Council team as they begin their year of service.
