DUBOIS: A locally owned specialty shop has given its downtown storefront a fresh look with the help of a recent Facade Improvement Grant.
DV Mercantile, LLC, owned by Karen DeVallance, was named the latest recipient of the award after installing updated exterior signage and gooseneck lighting on its building at 43 North Brady Street in downtown DuBois.
DeVallance’s work on the façade was recognized for enhancing the visual appeal of the street while improving visibility for shoppers and visitors. The new lighting and sign help draw attention to the business, making the corner feel brighter and more welcoming in the heart of the city’s retail district.
A Downtown Shop With Style And Heart
DV Mercantile opened in downtown DuBois as a curated home and gift shop offering a mix of décor, seasonal items, and unique finds that blend timeless style with everyday utility. According to the shop’s social media pages, customers can find everything from farmhouse-inspired accents to vintage-style treasures and fresh arrivals that make thoughtful gifts or additions to a home.
The business also participates in community events and promotions, often coordinating hours around downtown happenings and partnering with neighboring shops during special weekends such as Shop Small Saturday.
Located at 43 N. Brady St., DV Mercantile offers free private parking for customers and regularly updates its inventory with seasonal and trending items.
Community Impact
Local officials said the façade project underscores the value of investments made by small business owners in DuBois’s downtown core. Façade improvements like new lighting and signage can help businesses stand out and contribute to the overall vibrancy of the retail corridor — a benefit that extends beyond a single storefront.
DeVallance was thanked for her continued commitment to both her business and the surrounding community, with the grant serving as an acknowledgment of the effort she has put into enhancing the look and feel of her property.
Businesses interested in applying for future façade improvement funds are encouraged to reach out to the program’s coordinator to learn more about eligibility and deadlines.
